Darkly Dreaming Doodle – Inspired by Dexter

The Dexter series of book by Jeff Lindsay are truly fantastic works of literature. The TV-special front cover of the first book – Darkly Dreaming Dexter – is an impressive and incredibly effective juxtaposition of life and death, echoing the fundamental themes of the book itself. To show our appreciation for the coming together of brilliant reading material and superb photography and graphics we have experimented with the contrast of life and death in imagery.

We started with this picture from SXC.HU and got to work in Adobe Photoshop. It took just four masked adjustment layers and three brushed layers (for the bruising) to create the finished product.
